The second installment of the project is now available in which we have been working together with the curator and art historian Francisco Lemus, the series of online exhibitions Pride and Prejudice. Art in Argentina in the 90s and later. In that decade there were new developments in the local art scene that were constituted in lines of force affecting artistic practices even today.
After the first introductory chapter, we introduce Conceptualismo adolescente, Conceptualismo didáctico. Although the usual readings place conceptual art as opposed to the centralized artistic developments around Rojas, this online exhibition proposes to explore the conceptual strategies that emerged then, linked to humor, play and the ironic positions from the counter-cultural scene of the time, in response to the new institutions and art figures that were taking shape.
This project includes the comic strips made jointly by Sebastián Gordín and Roberto Jacoby; the work of Rosana Fuertes (didactic conceptualism); the irreverent photographs of Raúl Flores, focusing on the B side of everyday life; the forgotten Sculptures and Photographs project by Emiliano Miliyo, Esteban Pagés, Carlos Subosky and Máximo Lutz, which we are rescuing for the collective memory.
Thanks to: Francisco Lemus; Juan Borchex and Atilio Bugliotti for providing images of works in their collections; to the Ruth Benzacar gallery for the participation of Sebastián Gordín; to Jane Brodie and the artists involved in this project.
