Londaibere Collection
First episode: April 9th to May 28th 2022
INFO
Alfredo Londaibere (1955-2017) was a painter, art teacher and curator who was a central figure in the alternative art scene which started in the mid 1990s around the Centro Cultural Rojas in Buenos Aires, attracting a group of artists who dared to openly express queer desire, building an approach to art-making based on reclaiming subjective expression, handcraft, everyday inexpensive materials, painterly traditions and the decorative impulse, all as means to underscore the centrality of pleasure. This galvanizing moment in the development of contemporary art in Argentina still exerts its influence on a younger generation of artists.
Londaibere put together a meaningful collection of artworks by his friends and the artists he cared about, which includes pieces produced between 1982 and 2014, some which are truly iconic and resonate with the ethos and the emotions of that time. Under the guidance of Jimena Ferreiro, curator of Yo Soy Santo, Londaibere’s 2019 survey exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art of Buenos Aires, the gallery will present his collection in two subsequent chapters.
