In his role as curator, Raúl Flores presents El Brujo, a video by Rodrigo Moraes that merges a visual language inspired by Asian shadow theater with the atmosphere of a European folk fable. Its fragmented narrative—at times absurd, darkly humorous, and uncanny—unfolds around a distinctly contemporary understanding of love.
Flores writes:
“Once upon a time, there was a love story. A place where memories lose their substance and can only be recovered as fantasy. An enchanted forest, a lost young man, a lit cigarette. It begins on a cold night washed in melancholic blue, with a hero rescuing a man. El Brujo, flawed like a world, strong as a rock, insistent as desire, commits the madness of falling in love. He saves and is saved.
He spends his days playing in the forest, calling out to the wolf, his emotions suspended between fear and the thrill of encounter. That bittersweet tension that grips us from within, confronting us with the world—defenseless and willing to lose everything, though not without resistance.
Stories are elusive, deceptive, beautiful—like witchcraft, like love, like memory. Rodrigo Moraes plays in the forest while the wolf is away.”
