Si la luna hablara
Verónica Calfat
June 24th to August 5th, 2023
INFO
Verónica Calfat brings to the territory of painting something of the ancestral mythology that constitutes our unconscious, the ancient metaphors and narratives of the origins of civilizations. She carries and transfers from one world to another, much like someone who abandons nomadism and decides to stay in one place to cultivate the land. She treats painting as an archaic substance and traverses it like someone plowing the earth to sow seeds.
What she sows in that dense, corporeal material, in that sensual oil worked as impasto, is pure unconscious and archetypal imagery. What sprouts or grows as images in this cultivated territory are references to the symbolic world, a visual vocabulary of the mythical and the mystical.
In the construction of the images, with the use of oil bars, something in the process refers to the friction and resistance between material and support that drawing or sculpture could have. It moves away from the fluidity of painting and works like someone carving or traversing space, leaving a trace. Constructing the images volumetrically.
Verónica Calfat has been exhibiting her work since 2010, and this is her fifth solo exhibition. She has also participated in numerous group shows. She has received the First Prize in Painting UADE in 2019, the Second Prize in Painting Banco Central in 2019, and the Third Prize in Painting Fondo Nacional de las Artes in 2016. Her works have also been selected for the Fundación Klemm Award and the Banco Nación Award. She has been chosen to participate in the Sommeratelier International at Neo Rauch Grafik Institute in Aschersleben, Germany, and the LIA Leipzig International Art Programme in Leipzig, Germany, among others.
