Reserva técnica, MALBA Puertos, Escobar
We are pleased to announce Amadeo Azar’s participation in the inaugural program of MALBA Puertos, a new versatile and inclusive exhibition space in the town of Escobar, 50 km outside of Buenos Aires. In addition to permanent sculptural projects and temporary exhibitions, it will house the museum storage containing works from MALBA (Museum of Latin American Art of Buenos Aires) and from the Eduardo F. Costantini Collection, one of the most relevant collections of Latin American art in existence.
Amadeo Azar has intervened the collections’ storage area, conceived with a large transparent glass window that allows the public to view the artworks held. Working with the notions of exhibition and safeguard, Azar intersects the idea of an artworks’ reserve with that of a natural reserve. In a series of watercolors he imagines some of the works in the museum’s collection inserted and protected in nature, addressing the site’s environment as well. In this regard, Leticia Obeid writes: “By portraying the chosen works, Amadeo Azar has given them shelter from time… he has imagined them surviving a catastrophe, he has extended their lives…”.
