FERNANDA LAGUNA I CLAUDIA FONTES I JUAN TESSI
March 5th-9th
Booth 7C09
Ifema, Madrid
This year at ARCOmadrid, Nora Fisch Gallery is presenting three influential Argentine artists. While each one has a distinct style and approach, they all draw from intimate, everyday experiences to explore social themes that resonate with a broader audience
Claudia Fontes crafts porcelain sculptures that examine interpersonal connections and tenderness as a sanctuary for the immigrant experience. Her work also reflects on the interrelation between humans, nature, and other species—a theme further explored in her recent collages. Fontes represented Argentina at the 57th Venice Biennale (2017), played a key role in the 2018 São Paulo Biennial, and participated in the most recent Documenta in Kassel.
Juan Tessi‘s work is a constant exploration of the language of painting from a personal and idiosyncratic perspective. He references figuration, the archaic, abstraction, investigating the interplay between the constitutive elements of pictorial language, while his works are often infused with allusions to the body and its drives.
Fernanda Laguna is one of the most significant artists of her generation due to her multifaceted production, which focuses on visual art but also includes acclaimed poetry and novels, the creation of alternative cultural spaces, and a social art practice she has been carrying out for over 20 years in an underserved community. Her works are held in the collections of MOMA and Guggenheim Museum in New York; MALBA and the Museum of Modern Art in Buenos Aires; the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago; Rufino Tamayo Museum in Mexico; CA2M and Reina Sofía Museum in Madrid; among other institutions.
