An abyss is nothing. A painting which is order is nothing. But order which belongs to chaos, the instauration of an order which is appropriate for the abyss, that is the subject matter of the painter.
Gilles Deleuze.
Growing up in a family of three generations of established painters, Tiziana Pierri (b.Buenos Aires, 1984) has painting in her DNA. From very early on she undertook explorations of pictorial language with boldness, risk and a very own personal voice. Her work immediately gained attention, she was selected to participate in Argentina’s most prestigious artists training programs (Universidad Di Tella and Beca Kuitca) and was included in many shows at relevant galleries and art institutions.
For the past year and a half, nevertheless, she declined invitations to show her work, and while away from the public eye, undertook an examination of her approach to painting’s language, by diving into uncertainty and experimenting with dying, bleaching, folding and unfolding, piercing, using fabrics employed for workers’ clothing as support. The result, in her own words, are paintings on the edge of disintegration. They are rupture, periphery, threshold, indeterminacy, possibility.
Pierri has exhibited at Centro Cultural Recoleta, Ruth Benzacar’s Curriculum Zero program, Museum of Modern Art of Buenos Aires, Nora Fisch and other galleries. She won First Mention of the Jury at Andreani Prize. Her works are in the collection of The Related Group, Miami and many relevant private collections.
