EMILIANO MILIYO AND GUESTS
Noviember 9th – December 30th 2018
INFO
Indigo is a project by curator Florencia Cherñajovsly which departs from the work of Emiliano Miliyo. Miliyo explores the subtleties of our subjective relation with the everyday objects we consume, adore or resist. His large format watercolors are monumentalized documents of this fleeting everyday relationship: a jean’s label, a supermarket’s cashier receipt, a one dollar bill. Exhibited in a context particularly preoccupied with Argentina’s economy —as the country faces a deep recession, the devaluation of the peso against the dollar, the local obsession with saving in US currency— Miliyo transforms the everyday into objects of contemplation. Almost immaterial, these objects become totems of our quotidian life, time capsules.
Curator Florencia Cherñajovsky expands the ideas in the work by adding a layer of reflection on the relation between art and design, between body and marketing, fashion and art as merchandise. A group of 12 people including iconic Argentinean 60’s pop artists as well as contemporary artists, designers, and even the gallerist will make unique interventions on denim clothes, which will function as an exhibition within the exhibition.
