La Ciencia Inutil

INFO
Julián Terán utilizes a simple element, the line, to construct complex worlds. His recent works overlap different systems of representation: astronomical cartographies on one hand; written word on the other, specifically lyrics from Argentinean rural folkloric music (Terán is also a musician who composes a fusion of this folk with contemporary styles). His visual works are built through intensive manual labor as well as through technological means, he subjects the songs’ lyrics to several rounds of Google Translator until they come back to Spanish with their meaning changed. These words then become diminutive gestures which conform larger drawings. Earth and sky, manual labor and technological process, scientific gaze and poetic gaze, word and visual sophistication, all co-habit in Julián Terán´s new body of work.
