Gala Berger (Villa Gesell, Argentina, 1983) is a visual artist and independent curator. She lives and works between Buenos Aires and San José, Costa Rica.
Her practice brings together artistic production, curatorial work, and the creation of collective platforms, with a sustained interest in modes of circulation, exchange, and network-building within contemporary art.
In 2019 she participated in RAW Académie #6 in Dakar, Senegal, under the mentorship of Koyo Kouoh. She holds a degree in Visual Arts from the Universidad Nacional de las Artes (2002–2007). She was a fellow at the Centro de Investigaciones Artísticas (CIA) in 2011 and took part between 2010 and 2013 in the Artists Program at Universidad Torcuato Di Tella and in the Laboratorio de Investigaciones Artísticas (Lipac–UBA). In 2017 she taught the extension course Aesthetics of Self-Critique at the Transdepartmental Area of Art Criticism at the Universidad Nacional de las Artes.
She is co-founder of Museo La Ene – Nuevo Museo Energía de Arte Contemporáneo (2010–2019), as well as the spaces Inmigrante (2012–2014) and Urgente (2014). Between 2009 and 2014 she developed Munguau, a group focused on exchanges with South Korea. She also coordinated the seventh edition of the Tijuana Printed Art Fair in Buenos Aires (2014), curated the publications fair at MALBA (2016), and co-directed the Paraguay Printed Art Fair together with Sofía Dourron (2016–2017).
She has participated in international residency and fellowship programs, including Pagoda Imaginaria and the Bienal de la Resistencia in Guatemala City (2019); the curatorial residency at La Tallera – Sala de Arte Público Siqueiros, Cuernavaca (2018); the residency program at Galería Península with the support of FUNARTE, Porto Alegre (2017); Puerto Mitla residency, Mexico City (2013); the Barbosa–Moraes collection residency, São Paulo (2012); KUTSU, Tampere (2010); and SAAP, part of the Anyang Public Art Project, South Korea (2009). In 2018 she received a grant from the Cisneros Fontanals Art Foundation (CIFO).
Her work has been presented in solo and group exhibitions across Latin America, North America, Europe, and Asia, including the Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Costa Rica, Argentina, Sweden, Peru, Mexico, Canada, Brazil, Colombia, South Korea, Germany, Chile, Ecuador, the United States, Puerto Rico, and the United Arab Emirates, among others.
Recent exhibitions include Los premios (2026), presented at Galería Nora Fisch, where she develops an installation project that revisits, from a playful and critical perspective, the art prizes and exhibitions held in Buenos Aires in 1968.
She has curated and co-curated exhibitions in Argentina, Sweden, Mexico, South Korea, and Costa Rica. She is currently the founder of Casa MA, a feminist exchange network and annual exhibition program dedicated to women and dissident artists from Central America.
