bio
Luis Garay works across dance, performance, and video. His works are rooted in iterations, reiterations, and loops of minimal actions.
Through shifts, repetitions, and almost imperceptible changes, he constructs systems in which gesture, image, and language pursue one another without ever fully coinciding. This gap is central: bodies appear out of sync with themselves, as if caught in a continuous process of transformation. Within this movement, identity emerges as something provisional. The exhibition space, whether found or constructed, is always an active presence in his work.
He has presented his work at The Walker (USA), Sesc, Festival Panorama, Bienal de Ceará, Teatro Municipal de São Paulo (Brazil), Wiener Festwochen (Austria), Matadero Madrid, Festival de Otoño de Madrid (Spain), Centre Pompidou-Metz, Montpellier Danse (France), Kyoto Art Center (Japan), Haus der Kulturen der Welt, and Haus der Kunst (Germany), among others. In 2019 he founded Laboratorio de Acción (Argentina), a platform supporting mid-career artists in the field of time-based arts.
